ITINERARY:
Day 1: CUSCO – PISAC - OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES
On this tour, our local guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 07:45h and 08:25h. We will then head to the SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS, where we will visit the traditional market of Qoroy. From here, you can take excellent photographs of the Andes mountain range. Next, we will visit Pisac with its typical handicraft market, and you will also explore the archaeological site of Pisac with its picturesque terraces cultivated on the mountain.
We will proceed to Urubamba, and during the journey, you will observe different landscapes of the native villages of Lamay, Calca, and Yucay. Upon reaching Urubamba, we will have a buffet lunch included. Afterward, we will head to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, where you will take an uphill walk to enjoy the beautiful view that this place offers.
At 16:30h, you will have free time to explore this place on your own. At 18:30h, you must be at the train station to travel to Aguas Calientes, where you will arrive at 20:40h. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your chosen hotel.
Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
The day starts very early in the morning to take the bus with our guide from the town center. The bus ride takes 25 minutes from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of the Machu Picchu citadel. Here, we will begin a guided tour for 1 hour, during which the history of the place will be explained, from its construction to the time it was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham. After bidding farewell to the guide and the group, you will explore the citadel on your own, with time to see the missing constructions or climb one of the mountains, either Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu, if included in your ticket. After this experience, return to Aguas Calientes to be at the train station half an hour before the scheduled departure on your ticket. You will reach Ollantaytambo, where you will be waiting to take the transportation back to the center of the city of Cusco.
Visit to the archaeological site
To enter to Machu Picchu archaeological site, you must have the so-called Llaqta Machu Picchu entrance ticket. Remember that, in case you select a program without entrance fee, you can buy it in the Ministerio de Cultura website.
The entrance will give you access to the archaeological site following one of its 4 circuits, which you will have to choose once you are in the citadel entrance:
- Circuit 1: Upper and lower part of the archaeological site, as well as the terraced and terrace areas for 3 hours.
- Circuit 2: Upper and lower part of the archaeological site, as well as the routes to Inti Punku and the Inca Bridge for 4 hours.
- Circuit 3: Lower part of the archaeological site, including the agricultural zone, Temple of the Sun, Inca House, and the Archaeological Reserve for 1 and a half hours.
- Circuit 4: Lower part of the archaeological site, including the agricultural zone, Temple of the Sun, Inca House, Sacred Rock, and water mirrors for 2 and a half hours.
We recommend that you choose circuit 2 to tour the citadel, as you will be able to visit more attractions inside Machu Picchu and take the classic photographs.
